Criminal justice attorney John Landreth is proud to be a lifelong Charlottean, graduating from Charlotte Christian School in 2000. John zealously represents the citizens of Charlotte and both Carolinas who are facing misdemeanor and felony criminal charges, Driving While Impaired (DWI), Driving Under the Influence (DUI), and traffic tickets.
“The Carolinas are my home and I feel a duty to provide the citizens of these great states with compassionate advocacy. I enjoy helping people, providing legal representation during times of need.”
After practicing law throughout North Carolina, Mr. Landreth became a member of the South Carolina Bar in 2014. “The states may be neighbors, but their laws and processes could not be more different. I enjoy crossing the border and implementing the trial skills I learned in North Carolina to a new set of laws and system of justice.”
Mr. Landreth has quickly earned a reputation as a fearless and zealous advocate in the courtroom, earning the distinctions of “Top 40 Under 40” and “Top 100 Trial Attorneys” in recent years. “It is truly an honor to be recognized for your work and how much you pour into the preparation of a trial. When I am in trial I am not only advocating for my client but for all the citizens of that state.”
“As attorneys we have the privilege to serve multiple roles for our clients, the advocate and the counselor. We get to be the voice of reason and calm during unsettling and difficult times.”
Carolina criminal defense lawyer Landreth adds, “I take pride in being there for my clients whether they need a shoulder to cry on, a protector in court, or simply a listening ear. That is the highest duty we have to our clients and I am honored every day to fulfill that role to the best of my ability.”
While Mr. Landreth has other hobbies such as boating, fishing, and outdoor activities, he states, “Practicing law is my real passion. I couldn’t see myself doing anything else in life and being this fulfilled at the end of every day. I love helping people. It’s an honor to provide legal representation.”

“It doesn’t matter where you are, if you have DUI charges SC or DWI in North Carolina, we’re there. From a traffic ticket all the way to murder, manslaughter, statutory rape, or drug charges, we’re there.” - John Landreth
People with allegations of criminal charges, felony or misdemeanor, do not always understand the implications of a DUI Rock Hill SC to a North Carolina Driver’s License (NCDL). Of course, that’s true too for clients who are residents of South Carolina and live in York County and have legal troubles just up I-77 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.
We don’t just limit legal representation to cases in Charlotte NC. Our law firm and criminal defense lawyers help people throughout the region in places like:
- Monroe NC in Union County
- Statesville in Iredell County, North Carolina
- Including Mooresville and Troutman
- Salisbury, North Carolina in Rowan County
- Gastonia NC in Gaston County
Put simply, we travel throughout the region, helping people with criminal defense and traffic citations.
“Our Carolina defense lawyer clients chalk up a lot of miles. It’s not unusual for someone to live across a county line, in places like Gastonia or Mooresville, but work in downtown Charlotte.” - John Landreth, Criminal Defense Attorney NC
If you or someone you know has been charged with a Criminal, traffic or DWI-DUI Offense in North Carolina or South Carolina, Mr. Landreth would be happy to assist you through this difficult time.

I'm from Charlotte. I've lived in Charlotte for my whole life. I grew up here when uptown was still called downtown. I enjoy traveling to both states.
I have had the opportunity to live so close to Charlotte and to Rock Hill, and cross over the border back when Knights Stadium was there.
I have friends who lived in Rock Hill. I started thinking about going to law school when I was a young child, and as I grew up, I wondered why? Why do I have this passion for law?
It came to me that I have a passion for simply helping people.
I enjoy the law. I enjoy sitting down, looking at cases, looking at facts of cases, and deciding how best I can help someone - because the court system is scary.
Most people have never been through it. They don't know what to look for. They don't know what's going to happen next, and I like being the person who can sit down with them, show them what the case law is, show them what the possible punishments can be, and then let them know what I can do to help them. Hopefully I put their mind at ease during probably the most serious and scary time in their life.
If you've been charged, I'd be happy to help. I'm here to talk. Give me a call.

South Carolina and North Carolina are very different in the way that the court system works. I enjoy the people in South Carolina. I enjoy the prosecutors. I enjoy the judges there. I feel that we are able to get our clients better outcomes.
Without promising anything to you, I can just say that the system is much easier to work with. It's much friendlier to those who have been charged.
I enjoy practicing in the different law areas.
We are courtroom lawyers. That’s what we do. Trial skills and experience litigating cases are just as important in a DUI-DWI case as they are for arguing for money damages in a jury trial.
The best lawyers I know don’t see lines of demarcation between types of cases or ‘practice groups.’ In fact, understanding how impaired driving affects motor skills is just as important to a ‘drunk driving’ charge as it is to a car accident or motorcycle wreck personal injury case.
North Carolina and South Carolina have very different laws, even though the states are so close. I enjoy crossing the border and using South Carolina law, and using the court systems there.
If you or anyone else has been charged, please feel free to call me at 803-325-5806.What's It Like Having a Law Office in Charlotte NC and Rock Hill SC?
Having offices in both states is great. I get the option or the chance to travel back and forth to use different states laws.
There are substantial differences in the South Carolina criminal laws and how things work in criminal court in NC. Just like each person is different and each case is different, each state is different on how they handle allegations of criminal charges.
I enjoy bouncing back and forth between Charlotte NC and Rock Hill. It’s intellectually stimulating to put on my DUI defense “hat" in the morning, handle a case, and then appear in Charlotte criminal court for a trial on assault, or assault and battery charges.
More than that, with my experience as a courtroom lawyer, I get to compare and contrast what works in criminal court. I literally see the strengths (and weaknesses) of criminal law policies. Our law firm helps people with all kinds of different legal matters. Our law firm doesn’t define itself by a single area of practice or type of legal representation.
CarolinaAttorneys.com is defined more by the love to help people and argue cases in court than a “practice group" like criminal defense. We also help people with Family Law cases and Personal Injury legal claims for wrongful death or traumatic injuries.
By being licensed in both states, I get to help a client who might live in Charlotte and work in Rock Hill. We get a lot of cross-the-border clients where a person may live in Charlotte, and work in Rock Hill, or live in Rock Hill and work in Charlotte.
I enjoy traveling to all the different regions in our state. I enjoy traveling to different counties and different courthouses to help people.
I think it's a benefit for me with our clients that I can explain the laws of each state and exactly what's going to happen.
If you've been charged and want to talk, we'd be happy to sit and talk with you.
Feel free to call me at 803-325-5806.
